The IGNITE SpaceX Luncheon was both informative and engaging. The speakers, Polina and Kim, began the panel with an introductory PowerPoint. This presentation covered basics surrounding SpaceX and touched on Polina and Kim’s personal careers. The floor was then opened to all questions. Students inquired about the SpaceX community, internship opportunities, the daily work of engineers, and much more. The speakers answered all questions with thorough and genuine responses, keeping the audience engaged for the entirety of the panel. After reviewing the IGNITE evaluation surveys, it appears that nearly all attendees left the event more interested in pursuing a Technical or Engineering career than they were prior to the panel. Additionally, many left inspired to attend more IGNITE events, start or join a STEM related club, study harder in school, and even apply for internships or a job at SpaceX. Overall IGNITE presented an enriching and extremely valuable panel, inspiring many high school girls to look further into STEM.
SpaceX is a very popular company; we had an impressive 45 students attend the luncheon, the most we have ever had! Our Garfield High School Women in Technology and Girls Who Code Clubs would like send a huge thank you to Polina & Kim for taking the time to talk and inspire us, as well as IGNITE for connecting us with SpaceX and SPS CTE for providing the pizza. We plan to have future Luncheons later this spring.
