On November 25, 2024, 17 K-2 students from Paschal Sherman Indian School joined an IGNITE Virtual Show-and-Tell Panel, a unique opportunity to introduce young learners to STEM in an engaging and accessible format. The event featured Panelists Bailey Bercik, Senior Product Manager at Microsoft and Rupali Patil, Senior AI Product & Strategies at Lenovo. Caitlin Duke facilitated the session, and Stephanie Vaughn served as the Tech Host.
Students enthusiastically participated, asking a range of questions that showcased their curiosity, from Panelists’ favorite animals to how accessibility works for those hard of hearing in STEM careers. The thoughtful and varied questions reflected the students’ excitement and willingness to engage with the Panelists.
Panelists emphasized the empowering message that “girls can do anything they set their minds to,” inspiring the students to dream big and believe in their capabilities. The event also highlighted how organization and active participation contributed to its success, fostering an interactive and memorable experience for the young students.
Educator Kori Jackson praised the event as a fantastic experience for the elementary students, noting their enthusiastic involvement. The event left both the students and Panelists energized and motivated, with Volunteers expressing their desire to continue participating in IGNITE events and reflecting on the value such programs would have had for them as children. This virtual event served as a wonderful introduction to the possibilities of STEM, setting the stage for a lifelong curiosity and excitement about learning.
