In-Person Panel at Reed Elementary School (Tacoma, WA)

Inspire IGNITE Students in STEM during an IGNITE Panel at Reed Elementary School at 1802 S. 36th St Tacoma, WA 98418! This Panel will is for an anticipated audience of fifty 4th and 5th grade students.

IGNITE aims to increase gender diversity in high-wage/high demand STEM fields, such as technology and engineering. Reed Elementary serves a diverse student population, with high percentages of Latinx, African-American, and multiracial students and students who qualify for free and discounted lunch. Women, nonbinary, transgender, agender, and genderqueer professionals who represent these perspectives are highly encouraged to sign up as Panelists to share their stories and answer student questions!

This is an incredible opportunity to change an IGNITE student’s life! After signing up as a panelist, volunteers are required to review our 10-min Panelist Training Video at least once per school year and attend a live, interactive Virtual Panelist Coaching Session if they have not attended one in the past.

The total time commitment is about 2 hours of pre-event preparation for new Panelists and 30 minutes of preparation for returning Panelists, in addition to one and a half hours for the event itself, which includes early arrival to the school. Training must be completed by May 24.

Approximate time commitment:

New Panelist: 3.5 hours 2 hours prep (training, coaching, materials review) + 1.5-hour event

Returning Panelist: 2 hours 30 minutes prep + 1.5-hour event
