Your Role: Prior to Your Event
Prior to your event, your role as an IGNITE Educator includes:
- Recruit girls and gender-diverse students from throughout your school to attend. Please advertise widely! We encourage you to engage other teachers, counselors, and club advisors to share the event with more students. Check out our Educator Resources and Best Practices to help with school-wide recruiting and building support among other educators.
- Maintain a waitlist for your event. Please pay close attention to the number of students you sign up to bring to your event. It is important that all spots be filled.
- Ask all students, registered and waitlisted, to show up for the event so those on the waitlist can fill vacant spots.
- Note any students who should not be included in event photographs. You may use IGNITE’s Media Consent & Release Form if no releases are on file with the school.
- If you are attending a company Field Trip or hosting an event at school and need substitute teachers or chaperones to assist with classroom management and keeping students engaged, it is your responsibility to make these arrangements according to your school district guidelines.
IMPORTANT: Please respect the relationships IGNITE has cultivated with industry partners and volunteers. Any company or volunteer contact information provided for an IGNITE Event should not be used outside of preparation for those events, absent prior conversation with IGNITE Staff.
Field Trips:
For company Field Trips, you are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the event, according to your school district guidelines. IGNITE is not responsible for travel arrangements or associated costs.
- You can travel by whatever means works best for you, including buses, passenger vans, or public transportation.
You will also provide IGNITE with your anticipated attendance list, including students, waitlist, and chaperones. Please send this list four (4) days prior to the event. At this time, also inform IGNITE of any student dietary restrictions or allergies, so our company partners can accommodate with the lunch they provide.
At-School & Virtual Events
If you are hosting an in-person Panel or Workshop at your school or a virtual event, you are responsible for reserving an appropriate space for your event, including ensuring any required technology and websites are accessible to students and functioning properly.
- Make sure devices are changed and webcams and microphones are working!
We ask that you contact the volunteers supporting your event one (1) week prior to share logistical details, like parking and check-in procedures. We will provide you with a contact list and template.
Finally, we highly recommend ordering lunch or snacks for any at-school events, including virtual events!
