I’ve been working at Microsoft for over a decade in various roles. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, and a Master’s Degree in Information Systems. I’m currently in my second year of my Doctoral Program in Information Systems and Leadership. My current occupation at Microsoft focuses on Data Analytics and Business Intelligence. My wife Amber is a customer service manager at SOG knives, and we have 2 amazing daughters, Megan, and Luci.
WHY YOU ARE INVOLVED WITH IGNITE?
I have daughters of my own, and I want them to be inspired to work in technology. I myself was ignited just by someone showing me how to write my first SQL query. I now work as an Engineer in Business Analytics.
HOW HAS IGNITE INSPIRED YOU?
It is an incredible pleasure to be able to give back to the community, and having the opportunity to teach and inspire the next generation. As you know, only 9% of the Engineering workforce today are women, that number is not acceptable to me. As we transition STEM and utilize more and more Artificial Intelligence (AI) and bots, we especially need to grow the female population, and diversify demographics in technology so representation is balanced.
WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO SHARE ABOUT IGNITE WITH THE WIDER COMMUNITY?
IGNITE is a program that can truly make a difference in the future. If we can inspire the youth of tomorrow to get started in technology, there is no limit to where they can go! Our mission here at Microsoft is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. At Microsoft we believe in what people make possible. Educating and inspiring these ladies so that they embark on STEM careers is a boundless step towards that ultimate mission.
